New Delhi, Sept. 18 -- A special CBI court in Visakhapatnam yesterday sentenced a former Central Excise & Customs Inspector and a private individual to five years of rigorous imprisonment for their roles in a massive fraud case involving the evasion of Rs 32.28 crore in customs and excise duties.
The convicted individuals are Kalaka Ramdas, who served as an Inspector in the Central Excise and Customs department in Srikakulam, and Polaki Janakiram.
The court also held a private firm, Sri Balaji General Trading Company (SBGTC), represented by Janakiram, guilty in the case.
In addition to the prison terms, the court imposed fines totaling Rs 5.53 lakh, with Ramdas fined Rs 1.01 lakh, Janakiram Rs 2.51 lakh, and the firm Sri Balaji General T...
