Kolkata, April 27 -- The West Bengal CPIM has expelled three-time Lok Sabha member, Bansa Gopal Chowdhury, from the party on charges of "highly objectionable" behaviour towards a woman colleague.

The decision came after a woman leader of the party and also a former councillor from Jiaganj-Azimganj Municipality lodged a complaint against the former MP alleging that he had been sending obscene messages to her on WhatsApp.

The CPIM leadership announced Chowdhury's expulsion through a notification on Sunday morning.

However, the party did not elaborate on the reason behind his expulsion.

"He had been expelled from the party as per the recommendations of the internal complaints committee," read the notification.
