Aizawl, Aug. 21 -- In preparation for the upcoming by-election to the Dampa Assembly constituency, the first level checking of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable
Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) was successfully completed today, election department officials in Mizoram announced.
The checking process, which began on Tuesday, ensures the integrity of the electoral process
ahead of the by-poll.
The by-election for the Dampa seat in Mamit district, which borders Tripura and Bangladesh, was necessitated by the death of the incumbent legislator, Lalrintluanga Sailo of the Mizo National Front (MNF), who passed away on July 21.
