New Delhi, Sept. 27 -- In South-East Asia, eight people die every minute due to cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), Dr Catharina Boehme, officer-in-charge of WHO South-East Asia, today said, blaming the toll on commercial interests, inadequate fiscal and regulatory frameworks, weak enforcement, and poor oversight of unhealthy product marketing.
Ahead of World Heart Day on September 29, Dr Boehme pointed out, "CVDs remain the leading cause of death in the region, with nearly half of these fatalities occurring prematurely, in individuals below 70 years of age."Highlighting the progress made under the SEAHEARTS resolution, a regional commitment adopted two years ago to accelerate prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases, she said, "So fa...
