Moscow, March 14 -- Wholesale prices for chicken eggs in the European Union have risen to 268.5 euros ($291) per 100 kilograms (220 lbs), hitting a historical maximum amid the spread of bird flu, according to data from the European Statistical Office (Eurostat).
The previous peak was in March 2023, at 265.7 euros per 100 kilograms, during a large-scale epidemic of bird flu in the EU. At the end of 2024, the situation with the bird flu epidemic among domestic animals worsened again while at the beginning of 2025, the EU health regulator even warned of the growing risk of human infection from this virus.
