Brussels, April 9 -- EU Commission spokeswoman Paula Pinho said on Thursday that it is up to ship owners to decide whether to pay Iran if the country imposes a toll for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
"We are calling for the respect of international law. According to international law, there should not be any tolls or fees. It is, of course, up to the companies and ship owners to decide whether they would still pay this fee," Pinho told during a press briefing.
Pinho's comments follow growing international concern over reports of Iran mulling to impose toll on ships transiting the strategic waterway.
