New Delhi, Oct. 9 -- With focused conservation measures and increased public awareness, the Ganga river's protected habitat within the National Chambal Sanctuary, particularly along its stretch through the Etawah district in Uttar Pradesh has become a key refuge for the endangered Gangetic dolphin.
As a result, Uttar Pradesh now leads the list of the home of the freshwater dolphins in India, with a population of 2,397, followed by Bihar (2,220), West Bengal (815), and Assam (635), according to recent data.
