Chennai, Feb. 5 -- About 70 per cent of the total 2.27 lakh electorate have cast their ballots as voting for the Erode East Assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu, ended on Wednesday evening.

Official sources said the polling process, which began at 0700 hrs and ended at 1800 hrs, passed off peacefully.

The gates of all 237 polling booths were closed after the voting ended at 1800 hrs.

In some stations, some of the voters, who have entered the booth to cast their ballots before 1800 hrs, were given token to exercise their democratic right.

As the entire polling process was completed, the EVMs were sealed and taken to strong rooms amid tight security.
