Los Angeles, Feb. 20 -- Eric Dane, best known for his standout roles in 'Grey's Anatomy' and 'Euphoria', has died at the age of 53 after battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurological disease he publicly disclosed last year.
The California-born actor was diagnosed last year with ALS and spent the last few months raising awareness for the most common form of motor neurone disease (MND), reports BBC.
"With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS," reads a statement from his family.
Dane achieved widespread recognition for his portrayal of Dr. Mark Sloan, memorably dubbed 'Dr. McSteamy', on the long-running ABC medical drama 'Grey's Anatomy'.
