Chennai, Sept. 18 -- In a bid to woo the dominant OBC Mukkulathor community, comprising the Maravars, Kallars, and Agamudaiyars, collectively known as Thevars who were once a solid support base of the AIADMK, party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) has urged BJP stalwart and union Home Minister Amit Shah to initiate steps to confer the Bharat Ratna on the late Forward Bloc leader and community icon U. Muthuramalingam.
During his meeting with Shah in the national capital last night, EPS submitted a memorandum demanding the country's highest civilian honour for the late leader, whose birth and death anniversary is celebrated as Guru Puja on October 30 at his native Pasumpon village in Ramanathapuram district.
