Aizawl, Aug. 22 -- Carved through 48 tunnels and soaring over bridges taller than the Qutub Minar, Mizoram's first railway line to its capital is ready for inauguration. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the 51.38-km Bairabi-Sairang project on September 13, Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced on Friday.

The Rs 8,215-crore line, hailed as one of Indian Railways' most challenging feats in the Northeast, connects Bairabi to Sairang on the outskirts of Aizawl. With this, Mizoram's capital will become the fourth in the region to be linked by rail.
