Hyderabad, July 17 -- The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday caught Veeravalli Kanakaratnam, Engineer-in-Chief of the Panchayat Raj Engineering Department in Telangana, while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.
According to a statement issued by the ACB on Thursday, the officer was caught red-handed by the City Range-2 Unit while accepting the bribe from a complainant. The money was allegedly demanded in exchange for showing official favour in connection with the complainant's transfer and posting.
The ACB stated that Kanakaratnam had thus dishonestly and improperly performed his public duties. The bribe amount was recovered from him, and chemical tests confirmed the presence of bribe traces on the fingers of his left hand.
