Thiruvananthapuram, April 1 -- Dr. K. Ramakrishnan Nair, a pioneering plastic surgeon and distinguished heir to one of Kerala's most illustrious medical families, passed away at the age of 82, marking the end of an extraordinary third-generation legacy in healthcare.
Born into a lineage that helped shape the foundations of modern medicine in erstwhile Travancore, Dr. Ramakrishnan Nair was the grandson of Dr. Raman Thampi, who introduced modern allopathic treatment in the region during the reign of Sree Moolam Thirunal Maharaja.
Sent to London in 1902, Dr. Raman Thampi acquired advanced medical qualifications and went on to become Travancore's first Surgeon General, surpassing many British doctors of his time in credentials.
