London, Nov. 3 -- A Glasgow-to-London Avanti West Coast train has derailed near Shap in Cumbria and emergency services have been sent to the scene of a rail derailment in northwestern England, which has affected rail services, local media reported today.
Around 85 passengers and train staff were on board but there are no reports of injuries, authorities said today.
The derailment, between Penrith and Oxenholme in the Lake District, has blocked all lines on the route, causing major travel disruption. Local media quoted Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander as saying that efforts are underway to safely evacuate passengers.
