Patna, June 25 -- Describing the imposition of Emergency in the country as a symbol of the dictatorship of the then government, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that the day, June 25, 1975, is called a black day in the history of independent India.
Kumar posted on his social media account X that Emergency was imposed by the then Congress government. He said freedom of expression was banned during the Emergency, he said, adding that it was Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan, popular as JP, who stood against the dictatorial decision and began a movement against the Emergency.
Kumar said he, too, participated in the movement along with several of his colleagues and actively opposed the Emergency.
