Kolkata, March 30 -- The Election Commission of India on Monday issued the notification for the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and the first phase of polling in West Bengal, formally setting the electoral process in motion in both states.
With the notification in place, the filing of nomination papers by candidates has commenced.
Tamil Nadu will go to the polls in a single phase for all 234 Assembly constituencies, while West Bengal will witness polling in its first phase covering 152 constituencies.
Voting in both cases is scheduled to be held on April 23, marking a crucial electoral exercise in two politically significant states.
