Palghar, Sept. 8 -- In a shocking incident in Vasai, the belief that longevity can be more of a curse than a blessing was proven tragically true.

Burdened by illness and feeling that their conditions were preventing their son and daughter-in-law from living freely, an 82-year-old man killed his 74-year-old wife before attempting to take his own life.

The incident took place at Karadiwadi, Vasai (West), involving Arpina Gabriel Pereira and her husband, Gabriel Francis Pereira. While their son Bruno, his wife, and daughter had gone to visit relatives, Gabriel allegedly slit Arpina's throat with a knife, killing her instantly.

He then inflicted deep wounds on his own throat, hands, and stomach in a suicide attempt.
