Lakhimpur Kheri, Oct. 8 -- An eight-year-old girl was killed in a leopard attack yesterday evening in Khambhar Kheda village under the South Kheri Forest Division's Shardanagar range, officials confirmed today.
The victim, identified as Anaya, daughter of Guddu Khan, was playing outside her house around 7 PM on Tuesday. A leopard suddenly emerged from a nearby sugarcane field and seized her by the neck.
Family members and villagers rushed out with sticks upon hearing her screams. The crowd chased the animal for nearly one kilometre into the sugarcane fields, causing it to drop the child and flee toward the forest.
Villagers found the girl in a blood-soaked state with deep claw marks on her face and body.
