Bhubaneswar, July 15 -- Eight Opposition political parties in Odisha today jointly called for a statewide bandh on July 17 to protest the alleged harassment and subsequent death of Soumyashree Bisi, a student of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College, Balasore.

The 20-year-old second-year B.Ed student succumbed to burn injuries at AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Sunday night. She had attempted self-immolation on July 12 inside the college campus, allegedly in protest against ongoing sexual and mental harassment by Assistant Professor Samir Sahu.
