Kendrapara, Nov. 21 -- Forest personnel of the Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary have arrested eight fishermen for allegedly fishing illegally inside the "No-Fishing Zone" of the sanctuary. According to Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary Ranger Kapilendra Pradhan, the forest team seized one GPS device, two VHF sets, 11 fishing nets, and approximately 14.60 quintals of fish from the arrested fishermen.
Pradhan stated that during routine surveillance, forest personnel spotted a fishing trawler operating within the core area of the sanctuary. The team intercepted the vessel and apprehended all eight fishermen on board.
The accused fishermen were produced before a local court on Thursday, which remanded them to judicial custody.
