Nagpue, Sept. 9 -- The Ganesh immersion festivities in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra were marred by multiple tragedies as eight people drowned in different places during Ganesh immersion, police said today.

In Amravati district, three immersion-related deaths were reported. Karan Chavan (20) of Wagholi (Dhamangaon Railway) drowned in Bagaji Sagar dam, while Aadesh Pandhare (27) of Deurwada (Chandur Bazaar) was swept away in the Purna river.

His body was recovered the next day.

In a separate incident, Mukta Shrinath (32) slipped into the Chandrabhaga river at Barakholya (Daryapur) and drowned.
