Kolkata, Nov. 16 -- India Head Coach Gautam Gambhir on Sunday said the pitch for the first Test against South Africa at Eden Gardens was not unplayable and emphasised that the challenges faced by the Indian batting unit were more about technique, temperament, and mental toughness than the conditions.
Speaking after India's 30-run defeat in the first Test, Gambhir said the wicket allowed scoring opportunities and tested the batsmen's ability to handle pressure rather than simply their skill. "It wasn't an unplayable wicket. Both teams had to deal with challenges, but this was a pitch where technique and temperament were tested, not a surface that could not be played," he told reporters at the post-match press conference.
