Bhubaneswar, Oct. 24 -- The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has launched a strict awareness drive against the deadly and illegal trend of taking selfies, shooting videos, or creating "reels" on or near railway tracks and on the footboard or rooftop of moving trains.

ECoR has reiterated that such reckless acts are life-threatening and punishable offences under the Railways Act, 1989.

The public,especially youths and social media enthusiasts, has been cautioned against indulging in such dangerous practices.

The move follows a disturbing rise in incidents where individuals, in pursuit of social media fame, have risked their lives and disrupted railway safety operations, sometimes resulting in fatal accidents.
