Kolkata, Aug. 1 -- Union Minister of State for Education, Sukanta Majumdar, today reaffirmed that the Election Commission of India (ECI) will proceed with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal, despite opposition from the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Speaking to reporters at Bagdogra Airport, Majumdar said, "If TMC wishes to resist the process, they are free to approach the court, but the ECI will not succumb to political pressure."

Alleging widespread electoral malpractice, Majumdar claimed that TMC's political foundation would collapse once fake, ghost, and deceased voters are removed from the rolls.
