Kolkata, Dec. 26 -- : The Election Commission will closely scrutinise domicile certificates issued by the West Bengal government after July 2025 and submitted as identity documents during the claims and objections hearings on the draft voters' list, beginning Saturday.

Acting on a directive from the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal has been asked to issue guidelines instructing District Magistrates- who also function as District Electoral Officers (DEOs)- and their subordinate electoral officials to rigorously verify the authenticity of domicile certificates produced by "unmapped" voters.
