New Delhi, Oct. 10 -- The Election Commission of India (ECI) today informed the Supreme Court that it is fully ensuring that only Indian citizens are included in the revised electoral rolls of Bihar, in response to allegations of inclusion of illegal migrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar (Rohingyas).
In a detailed counter-affidavit filed by Deputy Election Commissioner Sanjay Kumar, the ECI clarified that it has been strictly adhering to constitutional and statutory provisions under the Representation of the People Act, 1950, and that "all necessary safeguards are in place to prevent any inclusion of non-citizens."The affidavit was filed in response to an interlocutory application, moved by Advocate Ashwini Kumar Upad...
