Kolkata, Dec. 29 -- : Election Commission of India (ECI) appointed Special Roll Observer C. Murugan (IAS) was on Monday faced a near violent protest at Magrahat in South 24 Parganas when scores of women vandalised his car denouncing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal and condemned the Central government for stopping funds of 100 days work.

Amidst "go back...go back" slogans, the crowd attacked the observer's car and damaged the lock of the back door. At Magrahat II, they demanded the attendance of BLA II at the hearing center in a school under Diamond Harbour region of South 24 Parganas.

While the police stood helplessly, the special observer had to wait for a considerable time to enter the hall where the hearing was on. ...
