Kolkata, Oct. 31 -- The Election Commission of India (ECI) is examining a proposal to set up joint supervisory committees for each of the 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal to monitor the progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The proposal, mooted by several political parties, seeks representation from both the Chief Electoral Officer's (CEO) office and political parties in these committees to ensure transparency in the revision process.
According to sources in the CEO's office, the move aims to address growing concerns raised by political parties over the conduct and outcome of the SIR exercise.
