Kolkata, April 2 -- The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday handed over the probe into the confinement of seven judicial officers in West Bengal's Malda district to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
In a letter to the NIA Director General, the ECI requested the counter-terrorism agency to carry out the necessary inquiry into the matter and submit a preliminary report directly to the Supreme Court as per the apex judiciary's order.
Earlier the Supreme Court in a suo moto writ petition directed the ECI to "entrust the inquiry/investigation into yesterday's (Wednesday's) incident to an independent agency such as the Central Bureau of Investigation or the National Investigation Agency."Following this, Chief Election Commissi...
