New Delhi, Nov. 30 -- The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced a one-week extension to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls in 12 States and union Territories.
The revision, which uses January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date, aims to update the voter lists to ensure maximum inclusion and accuracy ahead of future elections, the poll panel said in apres note on Sunday.
Asserting that the SIR exercise is a crucial, periodic activity undertaken by the ECI to cleanse and update the electoral database, the poll panel maintained that by setting January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date, the revision ensures that all citizens turning 18 years of age on or before that date are eligible to register as voters.
