Kolkata, Nov. 28 -- The Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed 12 Electoral Roll Observers for the state, with the mandate to oversee every crucial layer of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls based on the qualifying date of January 1, 2026.

The observers have also been tasked to ensure all instructions issued by the Commission are followed without drift or delay.

Calling West Bengal a state of "large area, numerous electors and complex geography," the Commission emphasised that the deployment of experienced observers is essential to maintain oversight across districts that also share substantial international borders.
