Kolkata, Jan. 12 -- : In a bid to speed up the hearing process under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the Election Commission (EC) has decided to appoint nearly 2,000 additional micro-observers in West Bengal. As in the earlier phase, only Central government employees will be deployed as micro-observers, not state government staff, Commission sources said.
According to officials, training for the newly appointed micro-observers will be held on Thursday. The decision comes amid mounting pressure to complete hearings involving a massive number of voters within a limited timeframe. Earlier the EC had initially appointed around 4,600 micro-observers before the hearing process began.
