Kolkata, Dec. 13 -- The Election Commission has decided to carry out an extensive verification exercise in West Bengal covering the details of more than 1.67 crore voters after identifying a wide range of anomalies in the enumeration forms submitted during the ongoing revision of electoral rolls.

The decision follows a preliminary scrutiny that raised doubts about the accuracy and consistency of voter information across several parameters, including age, parental details, and gender.

Officials familiar with the exercise indicated that the Commission has identified potential discrepancies in the records of as many as 1,67,45,911 voters.
