Patna, Sept. 19 -- The Election Commission (EC) has intensified its crackdown on inactive and non-compliant political parties across the country and in a sweeping clean-up drive, it has so far removed 808 unrecognised political parties from its records and issued show-cause notices to 359 others for failing to comply with statutory requirements.
According to official sources, in the first phase of the nationwide "purification campaign," the Commission delisted 334 unrecognised parties on August 9.
In the second phase, carried out on September 18, another 474 parties were struck off. These parties had not contested any elections conducted by the ECI during the last six years.
