Shimla, Oct. 1 -- The HP government has decided to set up an early warning system for the avalanches in the Ghepan lake of Lahaul and Spiti.
This state-of-the-art system will provide early warning signals in case of an iceberg breaking or excessive water filling the lake. This will enable timely preparation for potential disasters such as glacier and lake bursts, flash floods, and landslides. ISRO has already listed several glacier lakes as vulnerable, including Ghepan Lake.
The Ministry of Information Technology is launching this pilot project at Ghepan Lake in the Lahaul Valley.
