Chennai, Jan. 2 -- Reiterating India's strategic autonomy and its right to defend against any external threat, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday said the country will independently determine its response to any kind of external threat, including terrorism which endangers the citizens.

"To defend itself, India will do whatever is required," he asserted, dispelling the view that the country is strategically weak without friends, at the inauguration of SHAASTRA-2026, the IIT Madras Techno Entertainment Fest in Chennai. He was interacting with the students and faculty on the occasion on a wide range of topics from politics to diplomacy and Indo-Pak relations.
