Thiruvananthapuram, July 15 -- As India's e-waste generation grows at 30 per cent annually, Kerala's e-waste generation is projected to peak in the Financial Year 2028-29 at approximately 97,541 tonnes.
Improperly discarded e-waste may leach toxins - such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and flame retardants - into the soil and water, polluting ecosystems and posing serious health risks to humans, including respiratory issues, cancer, and neurological disorders.
In view of growing e-waste crisis, a special campaign to collect electronic waste from households and establishments through Haritha Karma Sena members will begin across Kerala today, official sources said.
