Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 16 -- The e-waste collection initiative launched by the Haritha Karma Sena in Kerala's municipalities has received an encouraging response, with 33,945 kg collected within the first month.
Households have so far received a total of Rs 2,63,818.66 in return for handing over e-waste. Currently being implemented in municipalities, the programme will be extended across the state by next month.
Under the scheme, households and institutions are offered monetary benefits for surrendering e-waste. Forty-four categories of non-hazardous electronic and electrical items are collected at fixed rates per kilogram. Alappuzha district recorded the highest collection with 12,261 kg.
