Shimla, Nov. 23 -- Deputy Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly and Congress leader, Vinay Kumar, has resigned from his post, clearing the deck for his likely elevation as the next President of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC).
Confirming the development, Vidhan Sabha Secretary Yashpal Sharma told UNI today that the Deputy Speaker's resignation submitted around 8 p.m. this evening has been formally accepted by the Assembly Secretariat.
Kumar, a three-time MLA from Shri Renukaji, has for weeks been considered the frontrunner for the top organisational post. His resignation is being widely viewed as the most concrete signal yet that the party high command may soon announce his appointment as the new state Congress chief.
