Durgapur, Oct. 15 -- A district court today remanded medical student Wasef Ali, arrested in connection with the alleged gang-rape of Durgapur medical college's gang-rape, for seven days police custody after he was produced for judicial process, official sources said.
Wasef Ali, a resident of Malda district of West Bengal, is also the class mate of the rape survivor, arrested last evening after a marathon interrogation and in-camera magisterial statement from the victim.
A free-legal cell lawyer appeared on behalf of the accused after the Durgapur bar association decided not to defend any accused persons in this case.
