Mumbai, Oct. 12 -- The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths have busted a major international gold smuggling racket operating through the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport here.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), in a secret operation code-named 'Operation Golden Sweep' on Saturday night, successfully dismantled the syndicate that used foreign carriers and inside help from airport staff to smuggle gold into India.
DRI officials seized 10.5 kilograms of foreign-origin gold worth Rs 12.58 crore during the operation.
A total of 13 individuals have been arrested so far, including two Bangladeshi nationals, six Sri Lankans, two airport employees, two handlers, and one mastermind behind the racket.
