Mumbai, March 7 -- The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Mumbai has arrested two foreigners for allegedly trying to smuggle foreign-origin gold worth nearly Rs 19 crore into India, officials said here on Friday.
The two passengers-Salem Abdulla Alshamshi, 33, a UAE national, and Alshamshi Abdullah Hmed, 38, from Oman-were nabbed when they were trying to smuggle gold by concealing it in a specially made customised waist belt.
DRI acted on specific intelligence and intercepted accused persons who arrived at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport from Dubai via an Emirates flight.
