Kolkata, Aug. 23 -- A drawing teacher was allegedly assaulted by a group of youths in Belgharia, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal after he protested against their public consumption of alcohol early this morning, according to police.

The incident occurred around 6 a.m. in the Nandanagar locality, under Ward No. 31 of the Kamarhati Municipality, sparking unrest among residents.

The victim, Nirupam Pal, was returning home from a Kali Puja gathering when he reportedly spotted four young men and a woman drinking on the roadside. Upon asking them to stop, Pal was allegedly attacked.

He sustained injuries to his face, eyes, and chest.

Speaking to reporters, Pal recounted the ordeal.
