Kolkata, Aug. 14 -- Condoling the passing away of Olympic Bronze medalist Dr Vece Paes,
leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari today described the hockey specialist as a true icon of
the Indian sports and games.
Medal winner in the 1972 Munich Olympics and father of Indian tennis legend Leander Paes, the senior Paes passed away ay 80 in the early hours at the Woodland Hospitals in south Kolkata
where he first started medical practice in the 60s after NRS Hospital.
"It is with a heavy heart that I received the sad news of the passing of Dr. Vece Paes, a true icon of Indian Sports and an Olympic Bronze Medallist in Hockey at the 1972 Munich Games," Adhikari said in his condolence message.
