Giridih, Nov. 19 -- Dozens of wild elephants entered several villages of Telodih Panchayat in the Muffasil police station area late on Tuesday night, creating panic and leaving a trail of damage across agricultural fields and smashing boundary walls.
Villagers said the herd moved from the direction of Gandhi Maidan, passed the Panchayat Secretariat and advanced along the lane beside Khutta Masjid, breaking through boundary walls and trampling standing crops.
The sudden incursion, which began at around 9:00 p.m., threw the locality into a state of chaos as residents rushed to secure themselves.
In the face of the emergency, Panchayat head Shabbir Alam took charge and coordinated the local response.
