Berlin, Dec. 29 -- At least 41 people experienced breathing problems after being exposed to an unknown gas in a Kaufland supermarket in the eastern German town of Waldheim, police said.
"Several shoppers complained about feeling unwell and suffering from respiratory irritation. The number of those affected currently stands at 41. After initial treatment by the rescue workers on site, 15 of those affected were taken to hospitals for further treatment and examination," the police force in Saxony said on Saturday.
The supermarket was immediately vacated. A criminal police unit took over the investigation on suspicion of dangerous bodily harm caused by an unknown substance.
