Kolkata, Feb. 18 -- In a remarkable feat at the 12th National School Chess Championship, Bengal's Oishik Mondal clinched the gold medal in the Under-9 Open category.

Selected to represent the Indian contingent in the upcoming "Asian Schools Chess Championship 2024" in Thailand, Oishik showcased exceptional skills during the five-day classical matches held in Patna, Bihar. This was organised by the All-India Chess Federation.

The intense battles, lasting three to four hours each, featured the presence of renowned Indian Grandmasters Dibyendu Barua and Pravin Thipsay.
