In an Instagram story addressed to fans in Adelaide, the 24-time Grand Slam champion said he was "not quite physically ready to compete" at the ATP 250 event, describing the decision as "personally very disappointing".
Djokovic noted that Adelaide holds special significance for him, having won the title there two years ago, and said returning to the city "truly felt like playing at home". However, the Serbian added that his immediate priority is gearing up for the season's first Grand Slam.
