New York, Aug. 28 -- Seventh seed Novak Djokovic staged a strong comeback to overcome spirited American youngster Zachary Svajda 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 and secure his place in the third round of the US Open here today.
The 24-time Grand Slam winner was pushed onto the back foot in the opening set, with 22-year-old Svajda matching him stroke for stroke and snatching the tiebreak 7-5 to claim an early lead on Arthur Ashe Stadium. The match looked set for a real battle as the American qualifier, buoyed by home support, unleashed aggressive groundstrokes and showed remarkable composure against one of the game's greatest.
