New Delhi, Oct. 21 -- Safdarjung Hospital has reported a significant surge in burn injuries related to Diwali celebrations. According to an internal census from the Department of Burns, Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery, a total of 129 Diwali-specific burn cases were recorded in just two days, from October 19 to October 20, 2025.
The data reveals that October 20 was particularly severe, accounting for the majority of cases. On that day alone, 113 patients sought treatment for festival-related burns. Firecracker injuries were the leading cause, with 103 cases, while traditional oil lamps (diyas) caused 10 injuries.
